SKIN
What if two white people in the middle of 1950s apartheid era South Africa gave birth to a dark skinned or obviously more mulatto looking child? This the question asked and answered in a film entitled, SKIN, currently making film festival rounds in search of theatrical release in the United States as well as the U.K. The story is based on the actual life of a woman named Sandra Laing, whose parents did indeed appear to be white in all respects and who classified her as such at her birth in 195_ despite her brown skin. Two documentaries had already been produced about this interesting occurrence when Anthony Fabian heard a story on BBC about Sandra and embarked on the process of making a feature.
